چکیده

Additionally, experiments comparing voice qualities were performed using vowels synthesized using averaged F0s, fluctuation-reduced F0s obtained using highor low-pass filters, and the original F0s with fine fluctuations, to determine which frequency bands of the F0 fluctuations were significant for perceiving voice quality of each group. The experiment results were analyzed using a multidimensional scaling (MDS) technique. They suggest that each group had a distinctive F0 fluctuation frequency that enabled it to be discriminated perceptually.

Effect of Vowel Auditory Training on the Speech-In-Noise Perception among Older Adults with Normal Hearing

Introduction: Aging reduces the ability to understand speech in noise. Hearing rehabilitation is one of the ways to help older people communicate effectively. This study aimed to investigate the effect of vowel auditory training on the improvement of speech-in-noise (SIN) perception among elderly listeners.   Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on 36 elderly ...

Production of English Lexical Stress by Persian EFL Learners

This study examines the phonetic properties of lexical stress in English produced by Persian speakers learning English as a foreign language. The four most reliable phonetic correlates of English lexical stress, namely fundamental frequency, duration, intensity, and vowel quality were measured across Persian speakers’ production of the stressed and unstressed syllables of five English disyllabi...

مشکلات جداسازی اصوات گفتاری همزمان در کودکان کم شنوا

Objective: This study was a basic investigation of the ability of concurrent speech segregation in hearing impaired children. Concurrent segregation is one of the fundamental components of auditory scene analysis and plays an important role in speech perception. In the present study, we compared auditory late responses or ALRs between hearing impaired and normal children. Materials & Methods...

Enhancement of temporal periodicity cues in cochlear implants: effects on prosodic perception and vowel identification.

Standard continuous interleaved sampling processing, and a modified processing strategy designed to enhance temporal cues to voice pitch, were compared on tests of intonation perception, and vowel perception, both in implant users and in acoustic simulations. In standard processing, 400 Hz low-pass envelopes modulated either pulse trains (implant users) or noise carriers (simulations). In the m...

Perception of vocal effort and distance from the speaker on the basis of vowel utterances.

The sound pressure level of vowels reflects several nonlinguistic and linguistic factors: distance from the speaker, vocal effort, and vowel quality. Increased vocal effort also involves the emphasis of higher frequency components and increases in F0 and F1. This should allow listeners to distinguish it from decreased distance, which does not have these additional effects. It is shown that list...
